Deng Zixin


Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences

Academician of the Chinese Academy of Sciences (Member, CAS), Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS), Fellow of the American Academy of Microbiology (AAM), and Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry (FRSC). Currently serves as Director of the State Key Laboratory of Microbial Metabolism, Honorary President of the Chinese Society for Microbiology, Vice President of the Chinese Association of Agricultural Biotechnology Societies, and President of the Global Institute of Microbiology (GIM).

Long engaged in molecular biology research of microbial metabolism, focusing on actinobacteria genetics and chemical biology of antibiotic biosynthesis, he pioneered the new field of DNA sulfur modification and has published over 400 research papers in domestic and international academic journals.

He has received the Second Prize of the National Natural Science Award (2008), First Prize of Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Progress Award (2004), First Prize of the Ministry of Agriculture Science and Technology Progress Award (1994), First Prize of the Ministry of Education Natural Science Award (2015), Second Prize of the Ministry of Education Natural Science Award (2007), "King Baudouin Prize" of Sweden (1997), and Gold Medal of the Russian Academy of Engineering (2020). His work was consecutively selected for China's Top 10 University Scientific Advances in 2005 and 2006, and Global Science's Top 10 Scientific News Worldwide in 2007. Since 1990, he has been honored with titles including National Expert with Outstanding Contributions (1991), Fok Ying Tung Foundation Young Faculty Award (1991), Nomination Award of the First "China Young Scientist Award" (1993), First National Science Fund for Distinguished Young Scholars (1994), "China Youth Science and Technology Award" (1994), Shanghai Top 10 Scientific Innovation Talents (2005), Shanghai Science and Technology Leader (2006), Shanghai Model Worker (2007), National May 1st Labor Medal (2008), National Advanced Worker (2010), Ho Leung Ho Lee Prize (2012), and Tan Jiazhen Life Science Achievement Award (2017).
